The Courtyard Garden was the central feature of a large country house in Cheshire. It linked different areas of the property and was the main viewpoint from the house looking out into the garden. But the space was under used, the seating area was too cramped and it didn’t encourage you to venture into the garden.
- A welcoming courtyard
- Informal dining and entertaining
- Attractive views into the garden
- Soft planting
The Courtyard Garden was defined by a new serpentine wall, leading from the house to the swimming pool. The wall could be used as informal seating during parties and provided the perfect backdrop for informal borders planted with a mixtures of herbaceous plants and grasses. The main part of the courtyard was planted with four winter flowering cherry trees. The cherries add height, structure and seasonal interest to the space, and look especially beautiful in blossom.
